Milestone Birthday Dessert Table Ideas

22 Aug

My Mom just celebrated her 70th birthday with her family and closest friends.  She loves sweets and we decided to do a huge table full of her favorites to celebrate her milestone birthday (Since it was an outdoor party and the weather wasn’t cooperating, we quickly had to transfer everything to the garage). To make it even more fun, we added personalized touches to the table.  I put together photo collages as a backdrop for the table.  I used black foamboard and had pictures printed on cardstock so I didn’t damage the originals.  I attached them with clear glue.  I used a pink banner kit to add some fun to the boards.

We served her favorite ice cream in personalized stadium cups.  The cups featured a crown and said, “KEEP CALM … Susan is 70!”

Her friends and family could make their own ice cream sundaes with different syrups, whipped cream and of course nuts and cherries.

My aunt made an old fashioned doll cake to remind her of her childhood which was a big hit with her friends!

My brother brought one of her favorites, a tres leche cake with fresh mango and peaches.

So many choices for dessert!  We also had personalized napkins for the sweet table to add another personal touch and they complimented the personalized stadium cups.

Hope these ideas inspire you!

Celebrate National Chocolate Chip Day

15 May

Today is National Chocolate Chip Day (#nationalchocolatechipday).  To celebrate … why not make something yummy with a bag of chocolate chips?  Of course you could make chocolate chip cookies, chocolate chip pancakes or chocolate chip waffles.  But I have a family recipe that’s a HUGE hit with anyone who tries it.  It’s my Grandma’s Peanut Butter Bar recipe.  This recipe was handed down to me years ago and has been a favorite ever since.  People always ask me “Are you bringing your peanut butter bars?”  I could probably make them in my sleep (although I’d rather not).  If you make them, let me know how everyone liked (or LOVED) them!

3 c. graham cracker crumbs

1 stick butter, melted

2 c. powdered sugar

18 oz. peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)

Frosting:

1 (12 oz) pkg. milk chocolate chips

1 stick butter, melted

Mix graham cracker crumbs, butter, powdered sugar and peanut butter in a bowl until moist.  Press into a 9 x 13 inch pan.  Heat butter and chocolate chips until melted.  Pour on top and smooth with a knife.  Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.  Cut into squares and serve.  *You can substitute margarine for butter and use semi-sweet chocolate chips if you prefer.

Enjoy!

Summer Party Favorite: Peanut Butter Bars

10 Jul

This weekend I have two parties to attend and was asked to bring a dessert.  When it’s summer, I always fall back on my Grandma’s Peanut Butter Bars.  This recipe was handed down to me years ago and has been a favorite ever since.  People always ask me “Are you bringing your peanut butter bars?”  I could probably make them in my sleep (although I’d rather not).  I thought I’d share the recipe so you, too, can be the hit at your next Summer BBQ or get together.  If you make them, let me know how everyone liked (or LOVED) them!
