Grocery Shopping Tips to Save Time and Money

11 Jan

Grocery shopping can become stressful if you simply arrive at the store and try to determine what items are needed for the week.   Our personalized grocery lists help you do everything from planning meals to organizing your shopping list in order to help you get in and out of the store efficiently and quickly!

Organized by Department Grocery List Notepads

Planning ahead helps save time and money. “This will prevent you from making an impulse purchase and help you to avoid return trips to the store because you forgot an item. A trip to the store to pick up something you forgot usually means that you buy several items you did not need. A list can really help you to save money and time,” according to TheBalance.com.  Have you ever shopped and once you’ve gotten home you’ve realized you forgot that one ingredient you need for the recipe you were going to make?  Making a list helps you from making a return trip or scrapping the whole dinner altogether.

If you’re trying to stick to a healthier diet, a meal planner can help you stay on track by planning out your meals ahead of time. “You can have a big impact on your health — and your budget — just by eating at home more often. With menu planning you know what your meals will look like and what you need to buy. That makes grocery shopping more efficient and cuts down on unplanned trips to buy one or two items. And with a grocery list in hand — a byproduct of good menu planning — it’s easier to resist impulse purchases,” according to MayoClinic.org.

Some helpful tips to help you shop healthier and smarter from Webmd.com:

  • Shop the perimeter of the grocery store, where fresh foods like fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat, and fish are usually located. Avoid the center aisles where junk foods lurk.
  • Choose “real” foods, such as 100% fruit juice or 100% whole-grain items with as little processing and as few additives as possible. If you want more salt or sugar, add it yourself.
  • Stay clear of foods with cartoons on the label that are targeted to children. If you don’t want your kids eating junk foods, don’t have them in the house.
  • Avoiding foods that contain more than five ingredients, artificial ingredients, or ingredients you can’t pronounce.

And here are some of my personal favorite shopping tips:

  • Don’t shop hungry.  You’ll end up impulse buying.
  • Bring your own reusable grocery bags to keep plastic bags out of landfills.
  • Wipe down your cart to help reduce germs.
  • Try to shop on “off” hours when stores are less crowded.
  • If possible, use coupons to help save more money on things you already buy.

Here’s to smarter shopping in 2022!
