Summer Fun Returns

Summer Entertaining

Summer fun is back!  To think that last year we were in quarantine and our plans were put on hold.  A year later and we are ready to make plans again from vacations to get-togethers to impromptu patio parties.  We have some great ideas and recipes sure to inspire some party ideas.

Cocktails on the Patio

Spend a beautiful summer evening on the patio with a few close friends.  You can serve cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while you chat under the stars (we found some great hors d’oeuvres recipes to get you started).  Set the tone with string lights, candles and music.  You can serve beverages in shatterproof drinkware to keep entertaining stress-free (here are some great cocktail recipes to try). For personalized napkins, cups, plates, trays, cutting boards and more, shop our Summer Entertaining Supplies boutique.

Ice Cream Social

There’s nothing like a good old-fashioned ice cream social. You can easily put one together for young and old alike.  This would be a great way to have a fun Sunday {or SUNDAE!} afternoon with neighbors and get reacquainted.  So easy to have either in your garage, on your patio or even your front driveway.  Have guests come and make their own sundaes to enjoy on a hot summer day.  Serve in personalized party cups that really set the tone.  Make sure to include all the toppings like nuts, candies, cherries, whipped cream and sprinkles.

Fourth of July

Nothing screams SUMMER like the Fourth of July.  A time to celebrate our independence and enjoy time with family and friends.  You can plan a fun dinner and the entertainment is already set if you plan to watch the fireworks.  Plan a whole theme of red, white and blue from outfits to food to drinks.  You can also plan to see a local parade if your town is having one this year.

Boat Party

Whether you own a boat or rent a boat, invite friends aboard for a day of summer fun.  You can keep it casual with lighter fare and portable drinks while you enjoy a day on the water.  You can bring sandwiches from your favorite deli and a cooler for your drinks.  You can always find an island or marina to enjoy an offshore picnic or visit a restaurant as well.  Just don’t forget to pack sunscreen!  Use a personalized tote to keep all your boating gear in (which also comes in handy for farmers markets and pool/beach days!).

I hope you enjoy the summer weather and get an opportunity to see friends and family!

Outdoor Summer Concert Planning Checklist

26 Jun

concert collage 2I love going to outdoor concerts to hear some of my favorite artists.  It’s a great excuse to get together with friends and enjoy music at the same time.  Over the years I have learned some tricks to making it an enjoyable evening by planning ahead.  I thought I would share some of my tips with you on how to plan for a memorable outing!

A week before the concert, start an email with your group to plan for food.  With our friends, we typically volunteer to bring food that’s portable and easy to share.  I usually have everyone “reply to all” to get an idea of what’s being planned so you don’t end up with all desserts or six cheese platters!

I’ve put together a checklist of items you will need for your outdoor concert and everyone can chip in with different items.  Here’s a handy list of items to bring to your outdoor concert:

Outdoor-Summer-Concert-Planning-Checklist

This list can seem a little overwhelming.  Just plan ahead and it will be smooth sailing and a great day (or evening) of friendship and fun.

Do you have any tips you’d like to share?  I’d love to hear if you have any other tips I missed!  And feel free to share what outdoor summer concerts you are planning to attend this summer.

3 Fabulous Summer Salads You Need to Try

11 Jun

Warm weather is finally here.  With it comes an opportunity to lighten up with our food (and mood!).  I love making salads for dinner and parties.  I happen to grow a few varieties of lettuce and spinach in my garden, so any opportunity to use them in a salad is a bonus.  Here are 3 summer salad recipes I can’t wait to try this summer.

I found this Southwestern Chopped Salad with Cilantro Dressing on Pinterest.  I think this would be the perfect salad for a warm night with a glass of white wine.  Or the perfect salad to make for a backyard BBQ.   The recipe is in the link.

SrirachaLimeChickenChoppedSalad2

This salad is a meal in itself!  For those who like to kick up the heat, this Sriracha Lime Chicken Chopped Salad looks delicious.  So many flavors in one bowl.  Recipe in link.

Now this salad happens to be a staple in my home.  My friend Michele has made this for years and it’s a knock-off from a popular restaurant in Chicago called Portillo’s.  I make this salad all the time for parties and people ask me over and over to make it again (and for the recipe, too!).  Portillo’s Chopped Salad makes a fantastic side dish at a party … or you can add some diced chicken to make it a meal on it’s own.  Recipe in link.

What salads do you make that just scream summer?  Or do you have a favorite recipe that you’re known for?   Share with us in the comments below.

xoxo,

Jennifer
